All you need to know about the Subaru certificate of conformity
Less famous than Toyota, Subaru is a Japanese car manufacturer, established in 1953, whose cars are successful all over the world. The company has a reputation for quality manufacturing, and individuals in Europe may be tempted to buy them abroad. However, to be able to drive it freely in France and also in other EU countries, it is necessary to present a specific document: the Subaru Certificate of Conformity (COC Subaru)
What is the Subaru COC?
The Subaru Certificate of Conformity (COC) is an official document that guarantees that the vehicle you have purchased meets current European norms and standards. It clearly identifies the car’s characteristics: CO2 and particulate emissions, year of manufacture, fuel consumption, vehicle model. This document has been mandatory by European law since 1996.
The Subaru COC: how to obtain it?
If you have bought a new Subaru, the seller may issue you with a certificate of conformity valid in Europe. However, this is not automatic. For most models bought as used cars of this Japanese brand, you will have to initiate the procedure yourself.
Moreover if you intent to import Subaru from one European country to another one, it is more than sure that during registration of used imported Subaru, you will be asked to get Certificate of conformity.
With the increasing number of specialized agencies, it is no longer necessary to go through a dealer. You can still request a certificate from a Subaru representative in any European country, but it is quicker to use a company offering online services. Our company EUROCOC can mediate a certificate of conformity for many car brands, including Subaru.
However, not all Subaru vehicles are eligible for the COC. It must have been manufactured after 1996, be either a passenger car, and be intended for the European market.
Issuing the Subaru certificate of conformity: the necessary documents
The COC is the final certificate allowing you to drive a Subaru car in France, in UK, in Denmark, in Belgium, in Switzerland or in Portugal or Spain. But before obtaining it, you must be able to present :
